In a year of nothing normal, our teams came together to power through an unusual and destructive phenomenon in Iowa. On Monday, August 10, a derecho, or, land hurricane, hit our state hard with over 100 mile-per-hour winds and driving rain. Few people went untouched and Iowa is looking at thousands of acres of crop damage, extensive tree damage, downed power lines, property damage and an overwhelming amount of electric, phone and internet outages.
Cedar Rapids bore the worst of this storm and our pharmacy there was out of operation for the week. Our staff banded together to help our customers at our Ankeny location, and we partnered with our facilities that needed to re-home residents elsewhere when damages were too great for them to safely reside at those facilities. Many of our employees are also facing costly and heartbreaking damage as well.
As always, we are proud to be a part of a variety of communities that come together to help each other, and this storm was no exception. We are grateful for the continued support and partnering we experience from our partners internally and externally through each next disaster in 2020. Iowa Nice is also becoming Iowa Strong.
